Jade Garden

I was getting sick of eating western brunches and decided to have dimsum for a change. If you live in the West, this may be a good place to check out during the weekends.

Jade Garden at the Chevrons was pretty empty when we reached. In fact, there was only one family dining there. So I guess it is also a good place if you want to be somewhere quiet.

While waiting for the food to come, we admired the swimming pool in the country club.

BBQ Char Siew Bun. The crust was a bit thick, but the butter crust was strangely comforting.

Full and moist on the inside.

Fried yam with chicken paste: this is supposed to be one of their best dim sum

But it was my least fav dish of all. Nothing wrong with the execution: it was crispy on the outside and had meaty chunks of chicken in side. But it didn't wow me.

We also had the usual suspect of Har Gow, where decadent gold foil topped the dumpling.

And siew mai with mini abalone. There was so much steam coming out from the steam basket that I couldn't get a decent shot of it when it arrived at the table.

It felt decadent eating abalone with the siew mai. The pairing worked quite well though.

Custurd buns to round off the meal. What's good here about the buns is that they were so filled with the custard that the sauce was overflowed at the first bite. But the taste missed the 'wow' spot. It was all savoury with no hint of sweetness at all.

We also shared the century egg chicken porridge (just realised I didn't take photos of it, but it's just porridge), which was pretty decent I felt. I like how the you tiao toppings were crispy even after soaking in the porridge for a while.

The overall bill was around $36, I think. A little steep but not unreasonable.
