Bangkok 2011

Bangkok Day 1

This time we travelled with my friend, which was pretty exciting becos we had company and we can share costs tog. It was also a luxurious trip. We flew on Thai Airways ($330 each ) and stayed at Shama Sukhumvit service apartment ($716 for the whole stay).

Here is the living room of our apartment, with a kitchenette not shown in picture:

The master bedroom which Dear and I stayed in:

The toilet attached to our bedroom which has (from left to right) a sink, shower and bathtub:

The pictures are a little dark (stupid camera) and didn't capture how big or nice it is. Suffice to say that it is bigger than a four room flat (or even some five room flats) in Sg. :(

After placing our stuff, we went to Platinum Mall to shop. When the shutters started rolling down, we went to T&K seafood for dinner! Yums, I have been thinking of it since we last went Bkk.

And our food: We ordered about 8 dishes that night, I think. *blurp*

With a full stomach, we went back and bought snacks and water from the supermarket opposite our apartment.

Day 2

The next morning, we went to get breakfast at A&W at Pantip Plaza before resuming the shopping war.

Lunch was at the food court of Platinum mall. The pad thai and oyster omelette to recharge. My friend ordered the mango sticky rice while I ordered the braised pork knuckle rice. It turned out to be braised pork fat rice instead. :p

The shopping mall resumed after the late lunch. After the shops closed, we walked over to Central World for Naraya and Triumph. Even Dear had something to buy- boxers. Hahah.

It was 8pm plus by then and I was starving and tired. The legs were already starting to ache badly from all the shopping we did.

Exhausted, we settled at the more upmarket version of Zen restaurant, and had one of the most expensive ($60!!!) and lousiest meals of our trip.

The scallop rice that I ordered which tasted normal:

Dear's mentaiko pasta which tasted normal too:

As we waited for a cab back, we saw fire engines and police etc trying to move through the trafffic jam towards the Platinum mall direction.

The officers were standing in the vehicles (they looked like lorries) and gesturing to vehicles to give way. So happening. We kept wondering what happened.

We later know that there was a small fire in the basement of the new Platinum Mall extension.

And we also know the next day that there was a earthquake in Burma that night, which sent tremors in Bkk. And of cos, us silly Singaporeans did not feel the tremor. We even played mahjong happily after we returned to the apartment, lol.

Day 3

Breakfast was the famous chicken rice in Pratunam area:

It was not too bad; very value for money for the price. We then walked on to Platinum (again) to the new extension for shopping.

On the way, we met this man who came up to us and said that it was Buddha Day and the shops will have a 50 percent sale at 1 pm. He also recommended us a morning market to visit if we are free.

I was initally very interested until he seemed more and more fishy when he tells us more about this wonderful Buddha Day.

With hindside, I think we were entrapped in Bkk's famous jewellery scam.

We decided not to follow the man's direction and continued to Platinum Mall where we asked the receptionist if it was Buddha Day. She said no and all our hopes of getting a cheap buy were dashed, lol.

So we carried on with our day as planned. After we wrapped up Platinum Mall, we went to Siam Paragon to eat at Greyhound Cafe.

We shared the sashimi in spicy sauce and fried chicken wing marinated with fish sauce.

My friend's complicated noodle, which was, very complicated indeed

Dear drank pepsi, which he thinks, gave him a mild case of food poisoning.

His Elvis handburger:

My spaghetti cooked Thai style:

We then went to MBK to buy local snacks. My friend had stomach aches, and Dear also developed bad stomach aches later in the day.

We stayed in the apartment for the night for him to rest, and bought in Pizza Hut for dinner. The poor guy kept going to the toilet.

It was really lucky that he was still well enough the next day to go to Chatuchak.

Day 4

We had breakfast in the hotel and proceeded to Chatuchak. After walking for a couple of hours, we raised the white flag and went to JJ Mall to rest.

After all the shopping that we have done, our legs were really battered and tired. We decided to go back to the market for a while after lunch and walked back to JJ Mall for a foot massage.

I'm so glad we had the foot massage. My legs really felt so good and fresh after the message.

We then went back to the apartment when we found this letter informing us that the hotel will be observing Earth Hour.

Then decided to eat dinner at T&K during Earth Hour, haha, and watched TV in the meantime. We also went to goof around a little in the recreation room. The apartment is fantastic rite.

Our gluttony at T&K:

Day 5

Sadly, it is the last day already. We woke up late, had breakfast in the hotel and went for a little dip in the rooftop pool.

After more tv and mahjong games, we went to the Tapas Cafe for lunch.

It was a rush to get back to hotel to leave for the airport. And it was time for home.

We will be back soon!
