Gluttons Bay- revamped

Ok, so the scheduled post didn't get published : (  Not sure what wasn't done correctly But here's the post!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is something romantic about eating hearty hawker fare in an open air space, with a light breeze in the end. While Singapore's weather is not conducive for such meals, the Gluttons Bay near the Esplanade seems to be doing pretty good business, especially with the tourists.

It has been eons since we visited it. Even on a cool evening, it is easy to perspire or feel sticky after a meal with the fumes hanging in the humid air. The founder of the place, K.F. Seetoh (whom I lost all respect for after he took up a KFC endorsement), recently spent $400,000 to give the place a facelift.

New stores were added with old ones getting the boot. So one evening, we found ourselves there to check out the new place after a lunch wedding that Dear attended at Marina Square.

 More sheltered areas now.

Retro furniture from the 80s. While they score points for aesthetics, they don't seem to comfortable as dining chairs.

The orh luak stall is still around. Thank goodness. And Huat Huat chicken wings is still around. These are the stores that are most important to me.

The other store that is most impt to me is BBQ sting ray. Now, the famous Rong Guan BBQ Seafood has set up shop here. Indeed it is very good news for the patrons here as I think they serve one of the best sambal stingrays in Sg.

Other new stalls include Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Eng Kee Noodle House. Not bad, not bad.

We still went away feeling sticky after the meal, and won't be back for a long time, I guess. We can get to eat delicious hawker food at our regular haunts. Til then, at least the tourists are getting a pretty good deal in this touristy market.
