Taiwan Day 3

Taiwan Day 3 - Kao Shiung

After the hectic schedule of the first two days here in Taiwan, we planned to take it slower on this third day of the trip. We had our breakfast in the hotel as it was included in the reservation but I guess we were just too lazy to take pictures of the food. The breakfast didn't warrant a shout out anyway.

Today's itinerary is to visit the more commercial district of Sanduo, followed by the cutesy Dream Mall and of course, another night market, or two, I should say. Lol.

One of the christmas display in the commercial district of Sanduo.

---

This place was really boring because all the bigger brands are here and everything was seemingly the same as what we have back home. So we only stayed for a while before proceeding to Dream Mall. We took a train to the nearest station and hopped on the free shuttle bus to Dream Mall. There will be cab drivers telling you that the bus has just left and you will need to wait a long time for the next one to come. But just ignore them because the shuttle bus comes at 10-15 minutes interval.

Dream Mall was much better because it was at least a themed shopping mall

With performances by Spacey OK-Chan, giving out free bags of potato chips to whoever can answer a simple question on their upcoming event

Other than the Ok-Chan family, Hello Kitty apparently lives there as well. But at the end of the day, they are all really but a gimmick. The mall isn't entirely themed that way and the displays are far and few in between

The rooftop amusement park that is entirely Ok-Chan's, and his two croco-dude buddies...

And I had to persuade my meow to take the ferries wheel. She thought it was a waste of money but I said we were on a holiday!

And up we went!

This ferris wheel stands on the mall so imagine the actual height when you are at the top, it was really high

Even the bear was getting so excited at the amazing view

It was only after reaching the ground that we came to realise that some capsules are more decorated than the others as we saw one with Ok-Chan inside and ours was a plain cabin. So be sure to catch the right one!

And then there were the simpler game stalls

Katsu curry for our quick and super late lunch

Coupled with a cup of their famous papaya milk juice, which was disgusting because I am not the "milk" kind of guy

And on the way back to the train station, we saw this Ok-Chan on another one of their shuttle bus

As night came, so was the challenge to conquer not one, but two night markets in one night. And one of them is supposedly so huge that it's considered the mother of all night markets. But the truth is, essentially both 凱旋夜市 and 金鑽夜市 are situated side by side. So it wasn't much trouble to take on both on the same night.

The great thing about Taiwan is that they are so famous for their night markets that there are even shuttle buses to bring you there from their nearest train stations in 5 mins interval. So we hopped onto the shuttle bus and arrives at the night market in less than 10 mins.

You'll never miss the entrance

Sometimes we find it amazing about the details they go into when decorating their stalls

A long queue almost always suggest a good find. So we had to try out this takoyaki stall

All of them are very focused on their individual task to keep the balls rolling. Lol

And they had an awesome packaging and a practical one too we soon found out because it was simply way too hot, you can't even hold the "boat" with your bare hands

And after what seemed an eternity holding the takoyaki and not being able to eat it, we went straight for it and forgotten all about taking pictures, until this last surviving ball. But not for long…lol

Just a signboard showing the other night market

And it was fermented bean curd again for us. This one was great tasting as well. No pictures but a menu though. Lol

In the end, the street food are more of less the same. So here's more of the wild boar meat. Just to fill the stomach

And I finally succumbed to giving the game stalls a try again. Though I didn't manage to win anything here…sad…

---

And so day three ended with us conquering two night markets on the same night. If you are thinking that it might be a bit too much, I can safely assure you, they were manageable.
