A very happy Sunday

After a very happy Saturday, today was a happy day too. I went to chuch with Dear and later we went to Marina Sqaure to eat Genki Sushi. Dear had a $30 voucher that we can use and so we ordered quite a lot of food : )

I've always wanted to try the Japanese paper steamboat. It is amazing that the paper can hold the soup and withstand the fire heat from underneath. It was with high expectations that I ordered the dish, especially since it was served piping hot to me with succelent chicken cubes and vegetables chunks floating in the soup. But I was a little disappointed when I tasted it. The soup was bland although the subtle flavours grow on you with more sips after a while. Dear and I ended up polishing away all the soup. The chicken cubes were tender and tasted of marinade. As for the cabbage chunks, they were soft but remained crunchy.

Slurp, slurp, slurp...

We also ordered the fried salmon skin and fried softshell crab. The fried salmon skin was a major disappoint. Although the skins were crunchy and provided a good bite for a appertiser, they were sliced too thickly and tasted a little floury. As for the soft shell crabs, they were a nice surprise as the serving was generous. We were served three whole crabs and the best thing is that the crabs were not very oily.

The salmon skin look and taste like prawn crackers.

I love soft shell crabs!

As for the sushi, I must say I was a little surprised that the selection on the conveyor belt was limited. There were only the more expensive ones and if you want to order the cheaper ones, you have to order from the waitress, so it's a bit tedious and I feel that it defeats the purpose of a conveyor belt. The rice of the sushi were a bit soft and tend to fall down when you pick up the sushi with your chopsticks.

Eating dessert was a hilarious episode. Dear ordered a plate of 4 small coloured balls. They were hard on the outside and contained sorbet inside. So the 4 balls represented 4 flavours- chocolate mint, strawberry, mango, green apple. I was trying to use my spoon to cut through the mango ball and the spoon couldn't poke through. I exerted more strength to poke the ball and the ball actually rebounded from the force and flew out of the plate! That shows how iced the balls are to be so hard! In the chaos, I instinctively tried to use my hand to catch the ball and I manage to save it, wahaha. Dear was stunned by my clumsiness and we both kept laughing at my silliness. But the dessert was very lousy as the fruit flavours were all too sour. The worst thing was that the lousy balls actually cost $7.90!

We ended up spending about $52 on the meal. I think I can be such a spendtthift sometimes. Lucky Dear had his vouchers to pay for half of the meal, heehee.

With such a happy weekend, it shall be a good week ahead : )
