Tokyo Day 4
The last time we had Krispy Kreme donuts was in 2008 when we set foot in Hong Kong and bought the donuts from the airport outlet.
Since there is a Krispy Kreme (standalone!) outlet near us, we made it one of our breakfast meals. It's along the way to Takashimaya via the overhead bridge.
Like many businesses in Japan, Krispy Kreme has cashed in on the Sakura season and introduced related products for cheery blossom viewing.
We were absolutely thrilled when the staff gave us donut redemption coupons for our purchases. Yeah to companies that are generous towards their customers!
Today is the start of our exploration of Tokyo city and we started it off by visiting Shibuya.
The famous Hachiko statute in Shibuya.
The cherry blossoms were starting to bloom.
And this was the first couple that we spotted taking their wedding photos in this season. Very nice weather to be doing outdoor shoots.
The symbol of Tokyo city- Shibuya crossing.
Shibuya is the hang out place of the good looking people in Tokyo. Every other person on the street is dressed fashionably!
Lunch was at Midori sushi in Mark City.
Our sushi set came with this century egg crab meat appetiser which surprised us by how good it tasted.
The chawanmushi was chocked full of ingredients.
And our sushi. Everything was good except for the sea urchin. Not having eaten one before (it's so expensive in Sg!), I was looking forward to trying it here in the motherland of sushi.
To my dismay, the sea urchin tasted like shit, literally. I had an urge to spit out everything but did not because I felt it would be very bad manners to do so. So I sucked in my breath and forced myself to swallow it.
Dear's reaction was not as dramatic as mine, but he also concurred that the sea urchin tasted...less than desirable. I suppose the good that comes out of this is that we won't be spending money on expensive sea urchin here in Sg since it has not become our new favorite food.
Before this trip, I have been told by others and read that Tokyu Hands is a must visit. I'm glad I made the visit in the Shibuya outlet. Apart from being super big, there's an outdoor cafe at the top level. Just nice for us to take an afternoon break and rest our tired legs.
Very nice place, right? It looks even better in real life. And I love how we can sit outdoors and enjoy the view in a nice weather. Definitely not able to do that here in Singapore :(
I told Dear the setting looks like a scene out of those idol dramas. LOL
The next stop of the day is the Tokyo Tower. We took a bus there, thinking the route has the least walking to the tower, but we still ended up walking quite a bit.
There were lots of cherry blossoms in the vicinity and gave the tower a different feel .
Another couple spotted taking wedding photos.
The tower organised a mini food fair outside its entrance in celebration of the Sakura season.
Then we are off to Roppongi for dinner. Going there by public transport from the tower was a little complicated so we decided to walk there. Yes, more walking again. It was around a 15min walk.
We had ramen for dinner at Korakuen, after I read good reviews about it online. But I find the food there so-so only. What's good about the place is that prices are considered relatively cheap.
My first taste of dry ramen- tsukemon noodles. I love how fun it is to dip the noodles into the broth.
I was feeling lazy to walk any more after dinner, and with the MRT station right in front of the restaurant, I was super tempted to return to the hotel for an easy evening. In the end, I gave in to temptation and opted to go back to the hotel because we have to be up early the next morning.
But of course, we still made our daily trip to the Family Mart for our supper. It is extraordinary how ice cream taste so good there- the crust is always very crispy!
