Before we made our way to the zoo, we decided to pop over to our fav bak kut teh place for lunch. Since there was a drizzle in the morning and the weather was chilly, it was the perfect time for some hot broth!
I am torn between listing this braised pig trotters or the bak ku teh as my fav dishes from the stall.
The gravy of the pig trotter is so good that I find myself scooping it over my rice more than the bak kut teh's soup. It is thick with flavours: savoury, yet sweet at the same time and tasted like it's been cooked for hours with all the porky goodness absorbed into it.
And the meat is so tender. It falls off the bone in chunks when pried with chopsticks. All the flavours of the gravy has seeped into the meat and each bite is unami goodness. I never fail to feel happy when I eat this dish.
I like the white soup version of bak kut teh, which gives the kick with the peppery taste. What is good about the bak kut teh here is that the soup is not overly pepperish and the best part: the meat is not hard even for the normal ribs.
Don't you hate it when you sink your teeth into a rib only to discover that the meat is so dry that you have to exert more bite force to coax it off the bone? In some places, you can choose to pay for better cuts of the meat and the price is usually much higher. That's ridiculous, I feel.
Here, the meat is an easy bite for the standard $6 bowl bak kut teh. How I wish this place is nearer to us, so that we can eat there more often.
