It's our third trip to Bkk and there isn't really much new stuff for us to do or visit. BUT, luckily there were two new places that enticed us to visit. More on them in the subsequent posts.
Day 3 was Platinum shopping again. We went to the famous wanton mee stall near it for breakfast.
The dry version of their wanton mee. The noodles were fragrant; tasted like they were drenched in pork lard oil. But not as wow as I would thought, given the place has so much raves online.
They are also famous for their pig trotters, which I like better. There was plenty of of the tender braised meat on the plate (hate those that places that serve a lot of fats and only a little of the meat*. The egg had a weird taste though- tasted a little sourish.
The eatery is only a few metres from the new mall Shibuya 19. So we also went to take a look. It's like Platinum mall but more boring. Nonetheless, Dear managed to buy two shirts from here. So, score!
It was still early in the morning but we had a coffee break anyway to watch the world go by. Haha.
We then walked over to Platinum Mall for more shopping. And very soon, it is lunch AGAIN. We went to Fuji Restaurant for the cheap and good (ok lah, it is average but good for the price) Jap food. It is a must visit for Dear.
Random photo of our travelling companion this time, Moo Moo, with my newly bought bag. The old one was dying and got replaced. Hehe.
My sushi set
And the restaurant's signature set which we always order because it has everything.
After more shopping, we went back to the tailor for the first fitting before proceeding to what is supposed to be the highlight meal of the trip.
I made a reservation at Bo.lan after reading and hearing so much good reviews about it. We wanted to get one degustation set for one person and choose ala carte dishes for the other. But the restaurant insisted that all diners at the table must order the degustation set- all for one or all for nothing.
That is where our evening started to go downhill, I think. Seriously, so what if the diners share the food from each other plates? This is not a buffet??
The posh setting.
The popcorn like snack that they served. Addictive with its crunchy texture.
And an appetiser they gave us on the house. Floss topping on rice drenched with coconut sauce, with herbs and chilli stirred in. It was actually not too bad and whetted the appetite for the main courses.
This stir fried beef was the best dish of the night although it was the priciest as well at around S$40, I think. I was most impressed with how the beef stayed tender throughout our meal even after turning cold.
We took up the recommendations of the waitress. But the rest of the dishes fail to impress. The squid was fresh, and crunchy but I didn't really like how the herbs tasted. Think I'm not a herbs person.
This was the worst of the lot. We wouldn't have ordered it if we knew the dish had so much vegetables and had to be dipped in the curry gravy. But the dish description on restaurant menus, especially the higher end ones, tend to baffle by over complicating the description, no?
So, I can only console myself that I have finally visited this supposedly culinary gem in Bangkok. While we left feeling unimpressed and slightly miffed that we spend $80 on such a meal, at least we can check the box and say 'been there, done that'!
