Bangkok Day 4

Bangkok Day 4

The itinerary of the day was shopping again. First stop of the day was MBK because Dear wanted dim sum for breakfast. We went to Hong Min.

My fav dim sum: custurd buns. But the custard in Thailand are dry :(

Pork topped with salted egg yolk. Not too bad.

Siew Mai

Steamd prawn dumplings

BBQ buns. Which I feel is one of the better items we tried. The dim sum in Thailand were definitely below my expectations. Good thing they were cheap.

For a main to fill us up, we also tried the roast duck with dumplings noodles.

We spend a little time roaming around in MBK before crossing the bridge to Siam Discovery Centre and Paragon.

I like the art statues on the streets. Wish we have more of these in Singapore.

After some atas shopping, we got ourselves lunch at Taling Pling restaurant in Paragon. Wanted to take the time while waiting for food to take some random pictures but got photo-bombed by Dear (AGAIN). Dear was in turn, photo-bombed by the waiter at the back of the picture. HAHAHA.

Pandan leave chicken. Not bad but I like the ones at Nakhon Thai better.

Dear's Massaman curry with roti. Their roti turns out to be fried crispy, flaky breads. Yum.

This is one of those moments that I feel so proud of myself for choosing the right dish despite facing so many unfamilar dishes on the menu. The feeling when your gamble paid off.

The stir-fried petai beans with prawns and minced pork was my favourite dish of the meal, and perhaps most memorable dish of the trip.

It was spicy and savoury, so full of wok hei- perfect with white rice.I can just finish up one bowl of rice with this dish alone!

My only grumble is I think there were too little prawns in the serving.

We walked past KFC as we walked around the mall and stopped at the same time. They had the spicy drumlets and were selling them at 25bht for two!!!! We looked at each other and walked in to order one serving to share. SUCH GLUTTONS!

Impressively, the KFC provides knife and fork as utensils for the food, and even a cup of ice of water! The water is refillable with the flasks of water placed at the side. And this is a cheap (by our standards) fastfood restaurant!

Do you know that the cashier at the  supermarkets in Thailand will provide a straw if you buy a drink?! Why can't we have this kind of treatment by companies here in SG?

The post lunch programme was to watch Batman at the cinema. We bought tickets for the IMAX theatre (only S$16). It was our first time watching a movie tog in Bkk and a silly first time.

We queued for like 20mins before we reached the ticket counter only to be told that IMAX tickets are sold at a separate counter. @_@

Turns our we didn't notice the counter and just followed the snaking queues at the normal counters. And there was no queue at the IMAX counter somemore!

Btw, it was quite an experience watching Batman in Bkk. The subtitles were in Thai and we did not have anything to reference when we couldn't get what the masked villian was trying to say through his mask. Another @_@ moment.

It was around 6pm by the time we finished the movie and we went to Asiatique for our night activity. There's a free ferry there from the Saphan Taksin Pier.

As usual, Dear was pretty worried about the safety of the boat, which was carry so many passengers.

Very spacious and the shops were like those of the old Suam Lum Bazzar. There are also shops selling Thai snacks, so you can also get them here besides MBK.

We had Korean BBQ for dinner. Yummz. Cheap and good.

I like how their sauces and veggies (including garlic) were placed in a bar and free for all.

After dinner, it was time to go back to our hotel to watch the Olympics!!
