Dear's 30th bday- part 2

Here's part 2 of Dear's big 30 celebration! Photo intensive post ahead!

After the yummy lunch, we walked back to the hotel to check-in.

The small but pretty snazzy lobby which provided two IMacs for free usage! You will see the hotel's restaurant at the back of the hotel.

We reached at around 1.45pm but our room was still not ready. So the staff advised us to sit in the restaurant to have lunch while waiting. Greedy Dear ordered a pasta and luckily I decided not to overstuff myself, because the lunch order counted towards one of the free meals we were entitled to (more on that later)!

Our room (bear not included as part of the room deal). Photo is pretty dark here :p

The toilet, which was rather spacious.

The best thing was the Molten Brown toiletries! They smelt really nice and felt so moisturising! I'm not too picky about toiletries but these really just made me feel so good that we took several sets (literally, from the houskeeping cart) to use in the end. Kiasu Singaporeans, haha.

The hotel was pretty generous with the snacks and drinks too. All these are complimentary!

 And all these too!

Basically, the staycation package here includes free meals, free snacks and drinks, on top of the regular free use of facilities. If you book the weekend staycation package, it also includes a bottle of free red wine, movie screening with complimentary snacks and a free cupcake baking class! Fantastic, right? This is ideal for people like us who are afraid of having nothing to do during a staycation.

So after chilling in the room for a while watching movies on the HBO channel, we went down to our cupcake class at 4pm.

The class was held in the hotel's restaurant and all the ingredients have been laid out for us.

The one-hour class was really idiot-proof. The chef had printed the recipe for us to bring back home, and what we had to do was to throw in all the ingredients one by one into the big mixer bowl to mix. Then we scoop the mixture into the cups and the staff will help us place the cup cakes into the oven for baking.

While the cup cakes are baking, we are given a cupcake each to practice decorating. And of course, the staff will clear all the bowls that we were using previously. We just need to have fun and not lift a finger to do anything!

Our finished products. The one on the left is decorated by Dear while the one on the right is mine. Too bad we didn't win the most beautiful cupcake prize in the group, or else we would have went home with the Quincy Hotel bear.

Turns out that it was the chef's birthday that day. While we were posing for a group photo after the end of the class, the hotel staff walked into the scene with a cake and singing the birthday song. I could feel Dear stiffening beside me and instinctively wondering if the whole set-up was for him. I was momentarily stunned and wondering about that too.

The mystery was revealed when they presented the cake to the chef, haha. But Dear got a surprise from the hotel in the end too (as we will find out later).

By now, our cupcakes were baked and packed into a box for us to bring back home. We ate one of them with ice-cream from the ice-cream dispenser (which is free for use the whole day!) before going back to our room again.

After eating, it was time for exercising. We went up to the pool area for a swim (or rather, a dip, in my case as a non-swimmer. lol). It was small but a nice one which is bright with sunshine shining in and overlooking the area. The gym, which also looked pretty good, was just beside the pool. Again, towels and chilled bottled water are freely available on this level.

After spending time in the pool, it was time for a quick bath and dinner. We kept joking that we feel like animals who were being constantly fed throughout our time in the hotel.

I ordered pasta with pork sausage in red wine and onion sauce. The 'sausage' pretty much looked like pork chunks. As weird as the name of the pasta sounds, and it does taste a little weird, it was weird in a good and tasty way.
Dear had the steak in pepper sauce, which he said wasn't too bad.

Now comes the surprise of the stay, and I think the hotel staff deserves a pat on the shoulder.

We had just finished dessert and were thinking of going back to the room when a hotel staff brought the tiramisu birthday cake over to wish Dear a happy birthday. It was a pleasant surprise!

I didn't arrange for it and I was the one making the room booking although I did mention that the stay was for a birthday celebration. But I didn't say whose birthday it was. So they must have matched the dates themselves when we were checking in and noticed that we were in the restaurant having dinner, and send the message for someone to get a cake. Thumbs up for this!

I think Dear was super relieved that the staff did not break out into a song, hahaha. He's a shy boy.

On a side note, they also gave Dear a birthday card along with the cake. But Dear's name was misspelt on the card. Oops.

After stuffing the cake down our stuffed bellies, we went back to the room for more television therapy before checking out the movie screening which was conducted beside the pool. And that's the end of day 1.

On day 2, we went down for breakfast (limited spread but ok eating for one morning lah) and had more television therapy.

When we went for lunch before checking out, we informed that we already ate the lunch we were entitled to before we checked in the previous day. Luckily, we only ordered for one person and so we could still order one more main course.

Luckily the serving at restaurant is pretty big and since we have been eating non-stop, it was pretty good for us to have to share one main course.

I choose the Balinese style fried rice and fried chicken and sambal chilli. It brought back memories of having breakfast in our Bali villa after the relaxing staycation.

We checked out after that, carrying big bags of loot from the hotel and the 2D1N staycation was officially over.

I hope Dear had a good time and enjoyed my planning!
