Taiwan Day 9

Taiwan Day 9 - Taipei

This morning, we started the day with a little stroll to meow meow's highly recommended breakfast place. Even though we could have taken the train over but it was only one stop away. Coupled with the cold weather, we didn't mind the distance.

It was roughly a 1.5 kilometres walk

And passing by the Taipei train station, which was just opposite our hotel

The famous 阜杭豆漿,where the queue runs all the way down from the 2nd level and round the bend of the building

Apparently it is so famous that there is perpetually a queue every morning. They even had a chart to direct the people

There were lots of other stalls open for breakfast as well. I can only imagine how the other stall owners must be so jealous of their never-ending crowd of customers

After queuing for almost an hour. We had to have a bowl of beancurd each to ourselves! I must say it was definitely worth the wait. Probably the best beancurd and fried fritters combination I have ever had

We also ordered the fried fritters wrapped in a pancake. It was basically dough overloading

-----

After a hearty breakfast, we went over to explore Yong Kang street, which is another area for the hippies, featuring niche boutiques, trendy cafes and local delights. And that meant another spell on the sidelines for the dudes.

It was beaming with tourists and locals alike and the jostling made worse by traffic trying to weave through the crowd

The little touches at the store front. I always find that their displays are actually more worth buying than what they were actually selling. But of course, these displays weren't for sale

Pet shops always remind me of the poor doggies who are deprived of the chance to run free

This is another of those nice shot by the meow

But this should have been taken in black and white

And as we were walking along the street, we stumbled across 胡须张. We simply had to have a go at their famous braised pork rice even though we were still quite full. In the end, we only ordered one small bowl of rice, shared by the two of us. Lol. It was so embarrassing

-----

Next stop was a trip to Addiction Aquatic Development, the one-stop solution for the freshest catch of the day. The location of this place was less than ideal as it wasn't near a train station. So it will be quite a hassle if you were to take the public transport.

But we were not rushing for time, so we took the train to the nearest station and got onto the local bus, with the help of two very friendly aunties who guided us to taking the correct bus number. It was really easy getting there, but provided you know the bus number to take beforehand.

The entrance to AAD, where hygiene is of utmost importance. You'll be asked to sanitise your hands upon entry

Once we got in, it was tanks after tanks of the freshest live seafood

Live oysters going for NT99 per pop

There were plenty of sushi and sashimi going around

My favourite macha…but we didn't get because it was too much for the two of us

Our loot for the day, the more extravagant one being the abalone, which alone costed slightly more than the unagi sushi and salmon sashimi combined. My meow has an expensive taste. Darn…

-----

After getting off the beaten track, we headed over to Taipei 101 just to take a little walk around the area and to see if anything has changed.

Taipei 101 in the day, with a pretty neat composition of the photo by the meow

Not too much for the night shot though where she got photobombed. Lol

-----

We had reserved the night to go to the nearby Ling Jiang night market. And by "nearby", I meant a 1 kilometre walk. We did quite a lot of walking on this trip because the weather was so cooling and really didn't justify taking the train for just one stop.

Ling Jiang night market stretches along one small street and can get really crowded at night. I think this was the worst night market in terms of the amount of jostling because walking space was really limited. It was not too bad a place to do a little bit of browsing here and there. The food was generally ok. Given the fact that we didn't take much photos pretty much reinforces the point.

The only photo that makes the cut. Lol. Wild boar meat rocks!

-----

So as we dragged our sorry asses home, we probably marked a record in the amount of walking we did on this trip today.
