HK Day 2

HK Day 2

We woke up in the morning and made our way to Causeway Bay to eat breakfast and shop. A very fast MTR ride whisked us from downtown to uptown, haha. If only S'pore also has such a sophisticated MRT system like HK!

And it was still raining! It was to continue to rain for the whole day. The wind was so strong that our umbrella was almost blown away or got inverted. I was starting to feel grouchy at the wet weather.

How the Hongkies had their meals. No problem with al-fresco dining in the alleys.

The shop that we wanted to eat at was closed, so we went to this shop instead. They are supposed to be famous for their cuttlefish balls. We were the only customers in the shop. Another typical Cha Chan Ting feel place.

The uncle cooking at their kitchen. And see the cashier machine? That's where you pay for the meal.

We both ordered a bowl of cuttlefish ball guo tiao. They dun have noodles or vermicelli.

This was another first that I have seen in Dear: Dear eating white guo tiao?! Wow, really gave me a shock that the usually choosy eater can learn to eat other kind of food too. If we were in SG, he sure won't eat this lor!

The soup was quite bland, guess Hongkies had bland tastebuds. While the sotong balls were quite chewy, seriously the dish did not impress me too much. Nice to have hot soupy guo tiao on a rainy morning but it's also like a sick person's food, heehee.

I also ordered fried fish skin, which I felt was a correct choice.

Being able to eat the crunchy fried snack tog with the noodles made the bland meal a much better one. The best thing abt the fried fish skin was that it was not oily at all. But it didn't taste like the typical fried fish skin that we eat at Jap restaurants. This eastern version of fried fish tasted like the big round fishball snacks that we used to eat when we were kids.

After breakfast, we went to Times Square and Sogo to shop. But we realised that the stuff was so ex! I didn't noe that the stuff in their departmental stores are so high end!

We stopped by Shui Liu Shan for some mango dessert and snacks. Yummy manago puree but it tasted quite heavily of coconut milk. But still, yummy!

Times Square is freaking 7-storey high!

We walked into some of the branded boutiques like Coach and Gucci. My first time entering such places and Dear's first time too. The staff were pretty friendly. Hai. Imagine if we have the money to go in and buy something. Heeheee

And they need 4 escalators at the entrance. Must be super heavy human traffic!

You know what is the bad point abt shopping and eating, eating and shopping? All your meal times get screwed up and it is so much easier to over eat.

We later came to Lin Hueng Tea House to yum cha. (Yes we are eating again!) Our original idea was just to experience the traditional yum cha culture in HK. But what we didn't anticipate was the culture shock that we were to get.

Never mind that we were unceremoniously brought to our table and had to share it with others. Customers here have to literally snatch food from the push trolleys. No point shouting to the aunties wat u wan. They won't realise answer u and if the dim sum that u wan is not on their trolley, they can't even be bothered with u.

Dear tried to ask the waiter to take our orders, we were told to just open the steamers on the push trolley and take the steamer if we wan the dim sum.

Everytime a push trolley was pushed out with fresh dim sum, customers would crowd around the trolley and get the dim sum.

Some even walk up straight to the kitchen door to get the dim sum firsthand as the kitchen cooks load the push trolley.

It was the first time we actually felt that we have to fight for food. I think Dear was pretty traumatised by the experience, considering he was the man and therefore he was entrusted with the manly duty of getting food, hahah. Dear just grabbed whatever dim sum that he thot looked good.

The dim sum was quite nice and the price was quite ok, pretty worth a visit, just that I think we will prefer a more modern yum cha setting if we wan to eat dim sum next time in HK.

The lotus leaf rice. Fragrant and the filling was very nice.

They have another dim sum where they wrapped a whole mushroom and fish maw and some meat in beancurd skin. When you bite into it, soup will ooze into your mouth! Nice! It was my favourite dim sum from wat I tasted there.

After that, we made our way to Central to shop at H&M. And lousy Dear got grouchy looking at me looking at the clothes. Managed to get 2 tops and necklace from there! ^ ^

We were meeting my frens who took a later flight to HK at Central MTR, so after shopping at H&M, it was braving the rain to walk to the MTR. The rain was so heavy that Dear wanted to buy another umbrella if we see any Giordano.

But somehow although it totally sucked to be in a pouring rain, it was fun to be roaming around the streets with Dear sharing an umbrella. Kind of miss it actually, wahaha. The 2 of us kept laughing at ourselves as we walked pathetically along the streets.

See how foggy was the scenary!

After meeting up, the whole troop of us walked in the rain to take the tram up to the Peak. Yes we are a little crazy to go up in this weather and we debated over it, but we really cannot fit in a visit to the Peak in our schedule if we postpone it.

So up we do on the steep ride up. It was very cool to be riding on the tram, though I wished the skies were clear so that we could have seen more.

Main aim of going to the Peak was also to visit the Madame Tussands Museum.

Nothing too fantastic, just that it was quite fun to see all the statues and take photos with them. Hopefully one day, Mayday can make it in and I can go visit them!

It was still raining when we come down from the Peak at 8 plus and it was so dark. We decided to take a cab to eat since we calculated that it shld be quite cheap with everyone sharing. Even getting a cab was quite a torture, having to wait in the rain by the roadside and getting blown by cold winds.

Dinner at Yung Kee restaurant!

Lucky the place was famous and the taxi driver had no problem knowing where we wanted to go. Was afraid that the bill might be a little high as it was a pretty expensive restaurant. But I decided that we deserved a nice treat after all the rain and wetness!

The restaurant was abt 3 storey high I think and it even had a life with a life attendant in it! When we were seated at our table, I noticed that a lot of the customers were Caucasians and was a little apprehensive as this tends to mean that the place was too touristy and may not be value for money.

Our appetiser of century eggs. I like!

We ordered their famous roast goose, braised tofu and cha siew scrambled eggs.

Pretty decent but I guess normal zi char also can cook this kind of standard, oops. The roast goose had a higher 'restaurant' standard. But still, eat until very full!

After dinner, we walked to Lan Kwai Fang to look see their clubbing scene.

It was 10plus when we finished walking around Lan Kwai Fang, and we decided to chiong down to Temple Street to walk walk before it close. And also to make full use of time!

So we walked to Temple Street and some shops were starting to close, but nevertheless, we managed to look see quite a lot of things.

And we saw Hing Kee Claypot Rice, so I decided to ta pao it for supper. Yes we are eating again! I felt like a pig but it was there on front of me and it was cheap, how can I give up trying a good food. So I got one packet to share with Dear when we got back to the hotel.

We slept at abt 2am I think, hee.
