HK Day 3

HK Day 3

We woke up and went to the Cafe De Coral near our hotel for breakfast. It's such an amazing fastfood place with an interesting concept- Chinese-style dishes that changes during the day and is quite cheap and delicious!

Dear's breakfast: Scrambled eggs with toast and beef steak

My breakfast: Scrambled eggs with toast and luncheon meat

And then off we go to Ocean Park!

We took a bus from Central. Look at the sea lion welcoming us!

They even have sand sculptures that are so intricate.

The stingray pool where visitors can reach their hand in and touch the stingrays. But I didn't get to touch any. : (

Luckily the rain had finally stopped after 2 days. But you can see the fog over the whole island.

Adorable sea lions doing some sun tanning

There are also quite a few rides in the park. We went up on this rotating tower to get a view of the whole park. Pretty awesome!

We went to their sea aquarium which had 3 levels! Lots of fishes and they are all so large, really felt like I was in the sea. Look at this fat shark, it was not swimming but just floating there. We seriously thot that it might be a fake. I mean, where got shark so fat one?! Heehee

An island design concept at one of the levels in the aquarium

Pretty right? It's a jellyfish and they can give out light and change colour every few seconds.

You wouldn't wan to meet it in the sea. Such an gigantic octopus! It was descending when I took the photo. Looks impressive right.

More fishes at aquarium

And see how many they are and how big they are. I really felt overwhelmed by nature. Didn't noe there can be so many fishes in the world and these fishes in the sea can be so big!

The stingray is nicknamed the devil fish. Why? Because its face seems like it is smiling at u while murdering u with its sting. I feel so proud that I managed to capture its expression. I had to wait for abt 10 minutes before one of the stingrays came near me and 'smiled' at me. Now, say cheese and smile!

We watched the sea lion show where it was a skit that showed the process of how a sea lion grow up in the park. Poor sea lion, no water for it and it has to slide around on the stage. But the sea lions were quite smart, the skit may be simple but the sea lions have to learn to do quite a few stunts.

More rides available at the park

And the frightening roller coaster!

There were also game stalls and itchy-hand Dear wanted to pay. In the end? He won a white teddy bear clad in santa claus clothes! And we had to bring it with us wherever we go.

Dear named it Santa O, courteousy of it wearing santa clothes and being in Ocean Park. To prevent him from wasting more money and we having to lug around more toys, I had to stop him from playing at the game stalls.

Lunch was...MacDonald's! A quick bite as we wanted to hurry to take the cable car to go to the other side of the park.

The cable car ride. The view was great and we also spotted staircases built among all the forests in the hills. Wonder who uses them? Must be a very fit person!

We also visited the Panda enclosure

It was our first time seeing a panda in real life! Look at how big it is. There were 4 of them but they all lived separately in different enclosures. Wonder if they might be lonely living alone.

Even the snacks and drinks are nicely printed with Ocean Park's designs!

Walking around the park was very tiring and so we grabbed some snacks while waiting for the next animal show to start. There are lots of slopes in the park and just walking up and down there can kill. Wonder how the elderly survive visiting the place.

Our last activity of the day: the grand sea show!

Finally we get to see the dolphins and the dolphins were great! They jumped in and out of the water and they are just so beautiful.

But I think the real star of the show was not the animals but the trainers as the trainers also had to go down into the water and perform stunts. So physcially tiring! Imagine that not only do they train the animals, they have to be fit enough to perform themselves also. My favourite part was watching them swimming with the dolphins. So touching. Even Dear was touched by the dolphins and the trainers.

After we left the park, we went to Causeway Bay for dinner before going to watch horse-racing at the Happy Valley RaceCourse.

We were running quite late as the bus that took us back was stuck in a traffic jam. But Dear still wanted to try the famous crabs and so we tried to find the place and have a quick dinner.

Alas, we got a little lost again due to HK's ambiguous road signs. It's irritating how their streets intersect one another and change so fast.

Our restaurant. Looks posh right? I didn't expect it to be so posh, esp cos was by the roadside in a dark alley.

The expensive looking chinaware

Even the washing hands area look so posh

The highlight of the meal: fried chilli crabs. Very fragrant and a bit garlicky. We opted for the leadt spicy, shld have ordered medium spicy. Might be more shiok!

Look at Dear peeling the crabs non-stop! The pincers were really big and meaty!

We ordered fried beehoon to go along with our crabs. The bee hoon was fried with their own special sauce.

The beehoon was quite Q and the best thing was that the bean sprouts did not taste like bean sprouts. I was initially quite sian when I saw so many bean sprouts in the dish but the they had no taste at all and were quite nice. I saw Dear trying to dig the bean sprouts out and I told him dun worry, there's no bean sprout smell. Imagine having to take out all the bean sprouts!

But the meal cost us around $100. Heart pain though it was a little reward since we didn't eat much in the day and hols are meant to be splurged on. This was the second most ex meal we had tog.

It was really quite late as it was about 7.40pm when we finished our meal and we need to go see horse racing . So we decided to get a cab since the racecourse was quite near.

BUT...it turned out that all recreation activities were cancelled to mourn for the SzeChuan earthquake and we can't go see horseracing! The worse thing was we had to waste $5 taxi fare!

The view from inside the taxi.

HK taxis can carry 5 passengers. So where does the 5th person sits? Well, there is a 2 seater seat in the front where 2 ppl can sit beside the taxi driver. Hongkies sure dun have any personal space!

The roads at night

Since horseracing was cancelled, we hurried back to the hotel to put down our stuff and meet up with my frens for night shopping. It was rushed travelling back to the hotel and then going out to meet my frens. I still feel sad that I didn't get to see horseracing! So wasted!

We slept at the late hours of 2am again. Supper? Krispy Kreme doughnuts that we bought upon arrival from the airport! Heehee. While they are nice, I still dun understand the fuss abt them and they are sure ex!
