New York- Day 7

New York- Day 7

Today is the last full day that we have in NYC, and the first time we had alone time together. We planned to split up from Mr Uncle and visit the American Museum of Natural History in the day, and regroup to watch a play at night. So we were very happy to finally be alone and spend time with each other haha.

It was raining heavily when we got up. Lucky we have the cheesecake from last night to nibble on while waiting for the rain to subside.

As promised, here is a picture of the USD11 cheesecake. Verdict: Not bad but not like super wow

We finally made our way to the museum after battling the semi-flooded underground subway. Pretty awful way to start the morning.

The impressive interiors that welcome you when you step into the museum

First stop was the animal section. I have never seen a museum with so many life-sized stuffed animals, all depicted so realistically.

Then we moved to the dinosaurs section. I was getting grouchy already because I was starting to feel a bit hungry, and more importantly, Dear had forgotten to feed me my usual dose of morning coffee.

There were other exhibits like a underwater world section, nature section, and history section with displays of how America started.

I guess we had quite a quick visit as we took less than half a day to finish what we wanted to see and we moved on to lunch. Finally some food!

Lots of people say we must try the burgers from Shake Shack in New York, so we went to the outlet nearest the museum for lunch.

Long queue for the food but it moves pretty fast

The restaurant was crowded so we went to a bench across the road to eat. We had a mushroom burger set and custard (which is really ice cream) of the day. The ice cream was really good! The burger? It was not bad but not as great as I thought it will be, with all the hype about Shake Shack.

After food in our stomachs, we decided to walk to our next destination, Central Park. We made a little detour (ok I think for about 10 mins) on the way for Gray's Papaya, which is also said to be popular for cheap and good hotdogs.

The buns and hotdogs

I pretty liked the sausage which has a nice snap. Dear found the hotdog to be very average and said I wasted his time walking to buy it :(

After the disappointing hotdog, we continued the walk to Central Park. It was starting to turn warm in the day and Dear was starting to get grouchy walking. Hee.

We finally reached Central Park.

It's a nice place to chill out in the big city. We didn't explore too much of the park as Dear was starting to perspire and got grouchy. So we made our way back to the hotel for a rest and then headed out to buy tickets for the Avenue Q broadway show.

We met up with Mr Uncle to buy the tickets and planned to walk around the lower half of Times Square which we had not fully explored. But it started raining heavily when we were in the Disney store and we were trapped there for some time. Finally we decided to brave the rain to move to the nearby MacDonald's for a quick dinner while waiting for the rain to stop.

BOOO! So sad to have Mac for dinner. And it wasn't even good- Mac doesn't taste better in New York.

We walked to the theater after dinner.

Took a picture while waiting for the show to start. I'm not the kind that appreciate plays and I surprised myself by enjoying the play more than I thought I would. Goes to show how talented these performers are.

We went back to the hotel after the play but not before stopping at the supermarket to top up groceries and going back to the Halal Guys to buy one more plate for our last supper in NYC. Totally rocks.
