Life is funny like that. Dear and I visited Queensway shopping centre to look for sportswear that he wanted to buy. We had a quick lunch at this famous Laksa outlet on the first floor in the shopping centre:
It was quite fun to be seating at the bench table right outside the stall. Pretty retro feel.
The laksa was as good as the one at Katong. Just the right tinge of milkiness and spiciness.
Luckily, the curry was pretty good. It was thick and fragrant, and of course, the chicken was very tendering after bathing in the curry pot for hours.
Those who have visited Queensway shopping centre will know that at the other end of the first floor lies another laksa stall. Both stalls on the first floor are packed with customers.
But there must be a difference between the two, right? So what is the difference?
I had seriously considered eating a second lunch at the other stall, but that seems so over, right? So we left, with me promising myself that I must try the other stall when I have the chance to come back here again.
After all, how many people can say they have tried both of the laksa stalls at Queensway? :p
Lo and behold, just a couple of weeks later, we were back in the area to visit Anchorpoint to get shoes for Dear. So, of course we tried the "Famous Queensway Laksa" stall!
I am usually very cautious of stalls who name themselves after the area that they are located in. It feels like they don't have real culinary credentials and are using a cheap way to make themselves seem important.
The Laksa on the other side of the first floor.
The small bowl of Laksa, with a stingy dollop of chilli, which didn't taste good. The curry was bland, and chilli less fragrant as compared to the Katong Laksa's version. The serving here was smaller too.
I would vote for the Katong Laksa, but Dear preferred the Queensway Laksa's version.
As a fair test, we also ordered the curry, and the otah because we were greedy. The otah was pretty meaty, had a nice bite and was a good accompaniment to the main dishes.
Back to the curry, it was thick and fragrant. More ingredients were given: Look at the drumlets saying hello!
But I still preferred the version at Katong Laksa. Somehow, it sits with my tasttebuds better.
So my personal verdict: Katong Laksa wins!
Dear's verdict: Eat Laksa at Queensway Laksa and eat curry chicken at Katong Laksa stall!
But no matter which stall you eat at, one thing is for sure: both are suoer value for money with prices starting from $3. A nice meal of curry and laksa for two with otah can go below $10!!
And for desserts, trot up to the second level for the tutu kuehs, like we always do.Cheap and good meal!
